Hier in sich abgeschlossen die Bände 3, 4, 5, 6 und 8 wie zwischen 1584 und 1585 erschienen, der Band 2 in der späteren Ausgabe von 1595 auf dem Titel nicht als Teilband numeriert, enthält aber wie in der Gesamtausgabe das Organon (Organum: Porphyrii praedicabilia, Praedicamenta, De interpratetione, Analytica etc.). Band 3: Physica, De coelo, De anima, De somno etc. - Band 4: Historia animalium, De plantis etc. - Band 5: Moralium Nicomachiorum libri, Magna moralia, Moralium Eudemiorum libri, Politica, Oeconomica etc. - Band 6: Problemata, Quaestiones mechanicae, De mundo, De coloribus etc. - Band 8: Index rerum omnium. - Ohne Bände 1 und 7, jeder Band jedoch in sich abgeschlossen und häufig auch einzeln zu finden - hier als sehr schöne Sammlung 6 Bände zusammen. - Kaum fleckig, die Titel mit teils gelöschtem Besitzvermerk. Etwas berieben oder angestaubt. Nur ein Schliessband der einheitlichen deutschen Prägebände fehlt, sonst jeder Band mit zwei intakten Schliessen, Leder von 3 Schliessbändern erneuert, die Rücken alt numeriert II-VI und VIII. - Sehr dekorative Bändchen. |

Italian cardboard binding from the 18th century CNCE 201; Adams A 112; Hoffmann I, 4; Schweiger I, 2. Uncommon and elegant imprint, the only with Ruffinelli who uses the translation by Francesco Angelo Coccio which first came out in 1550. The dedication to the dean of Lucca Silvestro Gigli is also reprinted here. - The erotic novel by Achilles Tatius (Achilleus Tatios, 2nd century, probably from Alexandria) about the adventures of Leucippe and Clitophon was very popular in 16th century Italy. It has many similarities to "Daphnis and Chloe" but was translated sooner and printed more often before 1600. - This is apparently one of the first books of Ruffinelli in Venice (cf. Borsa, Clavis typographorum). - Title with small old repair to the margin (no loss of text), three leaves with little flaw to the paper (only one leaf with very little loss of about three letters), little browning, only few quires with foxing but mostly clean. |

Neuerer Pappband VD 16, A 2814; nicht bei De Backer-Somervogel (kennt nur spätere Ausgaben). Seltener erster Druck dieser Schrift über die Heilige Kommunion des aus Venetien stammenden Jesuitenpaters Fulvio Androzzi (1523-1575). Im Jahr 1592 wurde ein zweiter Druck ebenda veranstaltet. Die Druckwerkstatt Mayer stand im Pachtverhältnis zur Dillinger Universität, die ab dem Jahr 1563 in die Hände der Jesuiten übergeben wurde. Bei den insgesamt wohl 330 Drucken, die Johann Mayer in den Jahren 1576-1615 herstellte, handelt es sich fast ausschließlich um Schulbücher sowie Drucke für die Jesuiten (vgl. Benzing, 78). Mit den in Bibliotheksexemplaren häufig fehlenden letzten zwei Blättern, die das Gebet nach Empfang des heiligen Sakraments enthalten. Ab Seite 294 die deutsche Fassung des Werkes "Como se han de preparar para recibir la santa Comunion" von Francisco de Borja. - Das letzte weisse Blatt fehlt hier, nach Vergleich mit den Volltexten online sonst komplett, aber weder bei uns noch im Exemplar der bayerischen Staatsbiblithek auf dem Titel datiert (Datum nur am Ende der Vorrede). |

"Fine copy of a scarce book containing a number of valuable texts not easily found elsewhere, thus e.g. the curious poem: De mortibus boum (on a cattle-plague stopped by Christian prayer not pagan sacrifice) by Sanctus Severus Endeleichus." Leipzig, Vögelin, 1593. 8°, circa 16 x 10,5 cm., 12 Bll., 720 SS., 4 Bll., mit Druckermarke. Halbpergament. d. 18. Jh. VD 16, M 359. - Erste in Deutschland gedruckte Ausgabe mit neuem Vorwort des Herausgebers Daniel Caesar aus Oschatz (gestorben 1634), der Rektor in Stettin war. Versammelt sind hier 25 Reden und 14 Vorworte zu Texten von Homer, Vergil, Cicero und anderen antiken Texten. Die Reden über den Nutzen der Beredsamkeit, die der aus Mailand stammende Marc Antonio Majoragio (1514-1555; eigentlich: Anton Maria de Conti) auch in seinem Hauptwerk "De eloquentia" verteidigt, das hier im Anhang ab Seite 693 wiedergegeben ist. Nach einem längeren Aufenthalt in Ferrara hatte er in Mailand die Professur für Rhetorik inne. Weitere Reden behandeln die Grammatik, die Dichtkunst, die Literatur überhaupt, die Musik, die Liebe überhaupt und speziell im vierten Buch der Aeneis etc. Einige Stücke sollen seine brillante Eloquenz vorführen und rühmen den Schmutz, erklären, warum ein alter Mann noch eine junge Frau heiraten sollte, behandelt Gesetze gegen das Glückspiel bzw Würfelspiel etc. - Provenienz: Titel verso mit 1593 datierter Widmung von Christoph Heiligmeier (1550-1607, Rektor der Leipziger Nicolaischule). Wohl von ihm einige im Rand beschnittene Anmerkungen. Dann Vorsatz mit dem schönen gestochenen Exlibris (Blick in eine Bibliothek) des bedeutenden Bibliothekars und Lexikographen Christian Gottlieb Jöcher (1694-1758). Weitere, leider ebenfalls beschnittene Anmerkungen eventuell von ihm, ebenso wohl die bibliographischen Anmerkungen auf dem Titel. Dieser dann mit altem Stempel der Bibliothek der Fürstenschule St. Afra in Messen. - Papierbedingt gebräunt und teils etwas fleckig. Deckel berieben, Rücken angestaubt, unten mit altem Etikett, sonst gut erhalten und mit schöner Provenienz. |

Sie bieten eine sehr umfangreiche Sammlung von Belegstellen aus der Bibel, den Kirchenvätern und den Konzilien. Pretty illustrated edition of this erotic novel by Iacopo Caviceo (1443-1511) from Parma, "who as a young man was ordained as a priest but lived so riotously that he was forced to flee abroad" (Oxford Dictionary of the Renaissance). The first edition was published in 1508 with a dedication to Lucrezia Borgia which is reprinted here. The work follows the adventures of the lovers Ginevra and Peregrino in Italy, Greece, the Near East, India and even the netherworld - a part that is clearly influenced by Dante and Virgil while many other episodes are reminiscent of the novels of Boccaccio especially in their rather free descriptions of erotic scenes. For its language as well as the mixture of fantastic or oneiric elements with symbolic and mythological descriptions the novel has often been compared to the Hypnerotomachia. There is a good overview of the different editions in Affo, Memorie degli scrittori Parmigiani. - At the end possibly without a blank leaf, online catalogues all just give 271 numbered leaves as here. |

The first part explains the various implications of colours, the second gives a key to the symbolism of plants, stones, minerals and other things that can represent different stages or moods in a love affair. - BOUND WITH: 2. Large edition of the collected works of the Italian humanist and historian Paolo Giovio (1483-1552) from Como. To his extensive contemporary history (Historiarum sui temporis libri XLV) are added several shorter texts about England, Scotland, Ireland, Russia (Moscovia), his native Lake Como and the famous treatise on fish "De Romanis piscibus" (first published in 1524, cf. Wood 359: "a very early treatise on Roman ichthyology"). There are also texts added by the English cartographer and historian George Lily (Virorum aliquot in Britannia... Elogia etc.). - Altough the first title says that the works are "imaginibus illustrata" the edition has no illustrations in the text apart from the portait of Giovio - this copy though has several added engravings. It is also annotated in many parts and has two manuscript pages with further historical details bound in. The endpapers give indices and some notes. Title with a small old owner s inscription. Some browning, little foxing but mostly clean, binding rubbed, rear board with some loss to the covering pigskin. Still a nice and decorative blindstamped binding with a figurative stamp to the center (Christ rising from the dead). |

Eine erste Sammlung erschien 1538, die folgenden wurden immer wieder erweitert und hier sind nun sowohl neue Vorreden als auch einige Briefe ergänzt, so dass die vorliegende Auswahl nun auf 1231 Briefe kommt, die in 28 Büchern sortiert sind. Enthalten sind auch Schreiben bedeutender Humanisten an Erasmus bzw. ganze Briefwechsel zwischen ihm und Freunden mit den jeweiligen Erwiderungen in beide Richtungen. Beispielweise die Briefe von und an Guillaume Budé enthalten auch lange griechische Passagen. - Das vorliegende Exemplar stammt aus einer Jesuitenbibliothek (wo Erasmus vermutlich kein Hausheiliger war), der Titel mit Besitzvermerken und teils entfernten Stempeln. Im Text vereinzelt Anstreichungen oder kurze Notizen in Bleistift (20. Jh.), sonst meist sauber und frisch mit schönen relativ breiten weissen Rändern. Einband berieben, Schliessen entfernt, dennoch recht dekorativ. |
